Hosted by the ICOMOS Ireland National Scientific Committee on Cultural Landscapes, The Culture-Nature Spectrum: Conversations about Irish Cultural Landscapes with an International Perspective Symposium takes place in The National Botanic Gardens, Dublin on Wednesday 19th June.

The intention of the symposium is to initiate discussion and develop awareness about cultural landscape; to understand the broad nature of the term while looking at the particular; and to share the Irish experience with an international audience.

The / sub-themes are: 
o Layered Landscapes: continuing, evolving and cared for by a community; 
o Pleasure Landscapes: demesnes, landscape parks & gardens, historic urban parks, places for leisure;
o Water Landscapes: bogs, coastal landscapes and their role in supporting ecological and sustainable responses to climate change; 
o Associative Cultural Landscapes: addressing the presence of intangible heritage in the landscape.

The Symposium is open to the public

Tickets are available for General Admission, ICOMOS Ireland Members and Concessions (Unwaged / Student).

The event fulfils the requirements for CPD for the RIAI, ILI and IAI. CPD certificates will be available as required.

In 2012 the ICOMOS Ireland Cultural Landscapes National Scientific Committee held an Irish Rural Landscape Amateur Photography Competition. The winning entries and thirty other entries from the competition are curently on display in the Museum Café of the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, Mayo, from Tuesday 29th January 2013 until the end of March 2013. There were three categories and the winning entries were:

Junior - Under 10
First Prize - Rosemary Murphy
Runner-up - James Bourke and Sophie Mathews

Youth – Under 18
First Prize - Victoria Douglas
Runner-up - Eva O'Driscoll

Adult – Over 18
First Prize - Juliette Condon
Runner-up - Katrina Morrison, Stephen Tierney and Sabrina O'Brien
