ICOMOS Ireland was founded in 1984. Since the 1990s, it has grown and developed and currently has over 100 members drawn from the State heritage services, local government, museums, universities and private practice.
In 2004, ICOMOS Ireland hosted the Europe ICOMOS President's Meeting coupled with a highly successful International Conference, supported by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Heritage Council. It also held a number of well-publicised events in Cork during Cork's European City of Culture.
Since 2009, it has helped organise activities on the International Day for Monuments and Sites. In the same year, it hosted a Joint ICOMOS Ireland/ICOMOS UK Meeting on Cultural Landscapes'. In 2010, it will host the ICOMOS Advisory and Executive Committee Meeting and Scientific Symposium 2010 'Social Change' in Dublin Castle.
ICOMOS Ireland follows and comments on matters in respect to World Heritage sites in Ireland. It was represented on the DoEHLG Expert Advisory Group to review the Tentative List of potential sites for inclusion on the World Heritage List.
ICOMOS Ireland is incorporated as a company limited by guarantee (No. 435591) and is a registered charity (CHY17077).
It has an elected board of directors who form the Executive Committee, comprising President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Company Secretary, Membership Secretary, Public Relations Officer and two Ordinary committee member.
ICOMOS Ireland holds monthly committee meetings which are open to all its members and often followed by talks. For further information on activities click here.
